Who is eligible to request a school transfer?
The following may request a school transfer for the current school year:
- Families who are new to Wake County (within 10 days of enrolling).
- Families who have moved residences within Wake County (within 10 days of changing your address).
You may request a school transfer for the 2018-19 school year during the School Transfer Request period, Feb. 20-March 6, 2018.
You will be notified by email if your request is approved or denied. If denied, the email will include information about how to schedule an appeal to the Board of Education.
Change your address mid-year
If you moved within Wake County during the school year, you have two options: remain at your current school for the remainder of the school year, or attend the base school of your new address.
- To stay at your current school, update your address with the data manager at your current school. If you decide to remain at your current school after updating your address, you will need to submit a transfer request during the School Transfer Request application period if you wish to remain beyond the current school year.
- To attend your new base school, update your address with the data manager at your new base school.
Transfer and magnet students who move to a new address will not be affected. Transportation options for Magnet students may be impacted.
School transportation is not provided to to students who receive an assignment based on a transfer request, unless the school is the base school or one of the calendar option schools for your address.

Magnet/Year-Round Application for 2018-19
Application Period: Ended Feb. 5. Families will be notified of results on Feb. 19.
Families have the opportunity to apply to a magnet school and/or a year-round calendar school during this application period.
School Transfer Request for 2018-19
Request Period: Feb. 20 – Mar. 6, 2018
Families will have the opportunity to request to attend any school on any calendar during this request period. Requests must be completed online by March 6. Late requests will not be accepted. Families will be notified of results starting on March 6.
School Transfer Request for 2017-18
Request Period: Within 10 days of enrolling or changing your address.
New families, families who recently moved or students who experience a life-changing event may apply to change schools. Applications must be completed within 10 days of enrolling or changing your address.
